Rah-e-Amal is a registered trust formed in memory of Amal Umer.

On August 13th, 2018, Amal, our 10-year-old daughter, was hit by a police-fired bullet intended for an armed robber, in the midst of a traffic jam. In our panic-stricken state we drove her to the nearest hospital where she was denied emergency medical care and succumbed to her injuries as we watched helplessly.

There is much to be said about state security; the motivation for using a firearm in an area packed with civilians on one of the busiest nights in the country; or the training and motivation of the policeman. But in the aftermath of this horrific tragedy, Amal’s parents picked one battle to fight, and that was to ensure that the rights of the injured are protected and that no one is denied first aid and emergency health care in the aftermath of an accident or injury. This effort resulted in the Sindh Government passing the Amal Umer Act of 2019.

Rah-e-Amal is the commitment of Amal's parents and like-minded civil society for the awareness and implementation of the Amal Umer Act. Our focus at includes advocacy for reforms in the police and healthcare departments, improvement of trauma care, trauma prevention, establishment of frontline emergency trauma care services, and provision of immediate and empathetic medical care for injured persons.

“Emergencies can’t be pre-empted anywhere in the world, but we must recognise that in Pakistan we are very far from being prepared to handle them. We need to collectively work towards improvement of emergency and trauma care systems- one should never forget how it could happen to you or your loved ones”
